Fabric Store Deal!

Hey guys, I promise I'll have updates on the plaid skirt I've been sewing forever. I am actually working on it in my spare time here and there, and when I say hopefully I'll be finishing it this weekend, I mean it!!

In the meantime, I'll just keep updating you on sewing-related things I've purchased, since that seems to be my real forte here.

The awesome G Street Fabrics livingsocial deal is back again, so for any of you in the Washington D.C. area, I HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of it!

Who doesn't need more of this!?

Here's the link to follow, and if 3 of you purchase it this way, mine could be free...so yay!

Either way, though, whether through my special link or not, this is a great deal. G. Street has a nicer apparel fabric selection than Joann (the other main apparel fabric store option in the area), and a great remnants section, too. In fact, it's where I picked up the silk remnant I used for my Milly Wedding Guest Dress.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

Breaking News

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you this breaking news update:

I got some SWEET fabric yesterday with my G Street Fabrics livingsocial deal!!

These were on the "please buy me" remnants table:
(Please excuse the poor quality of most of the following photographs. Sigh.)

hefty green tweed
impossible to photograph, lightweight denimy something
denimy closeup with underside
difficult to photograph, white shiny dotted mystery fabric
satiny on one side, cottony on the other
Dots! black + pink on creme  -- from the silk remnants bin
Milly silk

After finding these, I was innocently walking past the cottons, minding my own business and this pima cotton sateen started calling to me. I was essentially defenseless against its charms.

I couldn't get a good photo of it (who, me?), but it does perfectly match the pink dots in the Milly silk.

smooth, buttery, lightweight pima cotton sateen

I also picked up some zippers and covered button kits, which have both been on my list for a while.

I'm planning a top of some sort for the pink cotton, a skirt or maybe a dress for the Milly silk (I'm chicken to put huge 3" spots on my top half), a blouse for the satiny dotted white fabric [UPDATE: I just learned this is likely flannel-backed satin, best for lining jackets and making PJs...this may change my plans], a Ginger skirt for the denimy stuff, and a pencil skirt for the green tweed.

Who knows when these plans will actually materialize into finished (or even in-progress) projects, but, you know, I'm just documenting that I shopped with a little bit of a plan, instead of going willy-nilly as I'm inclined to do upon setting foot in a fabric store.

That concludes this breaking news update. Stay tuned for my scheduled Part II estate sale finds post tomorrow!

Random post: fabric store deal!!!

This is actually an accurate depiction of how much fabric I'd like to buy with this deal.
Whenever I hear about a special deal on anything sewing related, I get super excited. I am one of those people who checks Craigslist at least once a day for steals and deals on anything for sewing. So, without further ado, let me share with you the latest awesome-for-sewing-enthusiasts deal I've found lately.

The deal: for anyone in the Washington, DC area, there is a great livingsocial deal going on for a few more days. You purchase the deal for $25, which gets you a certificate for $50 to spend at G Street Fabrics, a local fabric store chain.

I bought this one (about a year ago??) last time it was available and was able to stock up on a bunch of great stuff and definitely took advantage of their well-stocked zipper selection! This time, I'm looking to pick up a hem gauge like this, maybe an invisible zipper foot, some more zips, and OF COURSE fabric. Yay!

Alsooooooo, I know this sounds tacky, but it just so happens that if three of you use my link to purchase this deal, I'll wind up getting the one I purchased for free! (Then, you can get three of your fabric-loving friends to purchase it, too, and yours is free!) So there's that.
